HOW TO MAKE MODS FOR FALLOUT 4 HOW TO
This taught me how to make mods in a way that causes only few compatibility issues, which is a big thing IMO. Doing so forces you to understand the data structures, functionality in ESP as well as compatibility issues. Good luck!Īs some guidance, I started making mods by making compatibility patches. It’s a little dry and might not be what you’re looking for, but it’s a great way to get familiar with everything and set you on the right path. The official creation kit tutorials are a good place to start if you’ve never touched the creation kit before as well. Otherwise just have fun and don’t be afraid to experiment and try new things. If you have any questions about a specific process (like how do you make a vault door open, or how to script an event so that raiders attack you after you loot a chest, or how create a custom armor/weapon, etc) it will be easier for people to help you out and point you in the right direction. Personally I’ve avoided scripting because it gives me a headache but things like quest making occasionally requires scripts or at least the ability to work with and modify existing scripts. Scripting tutorials are a little bit harder to come by but they are out there.
HOW TO MAKE MODS FOR FALLOUT 4 MOD
There’s plenty of tutorials on YouTube from a variety of different mod authors that cover a lot of the basics and some of the more intermediate and advanced concepts. My suggestion is to just get familiar with the creation kit and play around with it until you get comfortable. But do know there are some differences in quest making and scripting, and some other features not present in Skyrim’s CK.
Skyrim CK tutorials are a good place to start for the basics, as the two creation kits work pretty much the same. You do not need to know every bit, but having the focus may help as you go along and remember google and the Nexus forums may provide answer to specific problems Plugin files, data relationships, material files, texture files and Papyrus files. Modify some existing values on a weapon or armor, save and test it out in game.Īs Greguire suggested, start with the official Creation Kit tutorial Īn extra recommendation is to try getting a grasp on how mods/plugins works and try learning how things ties together. Learning the basics like creating a plugin file is a good start. If you have not done any programming or have a technical background I would not recommend diving straight into Papyrus. It is always a challenge to answer this question as there are so many aspects and problems are often unique. r/falloutlore - In depth discussion for everything lore related r/classicfallout - For the early Fallout games New Vegas Nexus - For all your New Vegas modding needsįallout 3 Nexus - For all your Fallout 3 modding needsįallout 4 Nexus - For all your Fallout 4 modding needs
